kansaiphones: (Chase Young "What the...")
*points to new icon* I actually made my own icon! X3 Now I feel like making some more. Maybe a Saiyuki one...if I ever find my DVDs. I have no idea where they are after Mom and I cleaned up the place. One day, I want to make an animated icon of Chase, Jack, and Omi with the text as follows..."Fangirls? Fangirls?! Fangirls<3)

Tomorrow night, I'm headed to Haleiwa for the Obon Dance there. The Obon Dance is a tradition Japanese Buddhists practice in the summer. At this time of the year, the spirits of loved ones return from the Pure Land to join our world for a certian amount of time. During this period, people dance to music while circling a raised platform where performers play on the taiko drums and other traditional Japanese instruments. (However, we do the "Electric Slide" for some odd reason...) At Haleiwa (since the beach is just outside the temple grounds), just before the dancing ends, there's a Toro Nagashi or laturn floating. These laturns are lauched into the ocean, guiding the spirits back to the Pure Land.

Every year, I go down to help out with the refreshments and taking the lanturns down into the ocean. And every year, I get soaked. The ride from Honolulu to Haleiwa is about two hours(?) and so I won't come back home until real late...but I'm used to it. I'm just going to be extremely groggy the next day. Second, I'm going down to the Olelo station to take the featherpack crashcourse and learn about working in a studio. Definetly plan to nap on the ride to Haleiwa. Maybe this year, I can take some pictures and post them.
