Back from Utah
I came back to campus at 2 am today. Originally, my friends and I (16 of us total) were supposed to be back yesterday if it weren't for the snow that came into Salt Lake City. >_<
But overall, it was a great trip. The drive from campus down to Lake Powell is around 14/15 hours in 2 cars and a van. I was in the van, and we ended up with most of the stuff including three coolers, lots of sleeping bags and so on. But before we headed to Utah, we had to go to the airport to pick up Tannia's boyfriend, Shaun, who came up to see her during the break. He got along with everyone well, especially with the guys who played WOW (World of Warcraft). XD
We had several events though on the ride to and from. We almost forgot one of my friends at one gas station because he was so slow. Then there was the "killer truck" that didn't know how to strap down stuff good. First, a piece of wood fell off, almost hitting one of the cars. Then, back license plate fell off too and finally, a rock hit the van windshield, resulting in a crack. And everytime that truck passed by us, he gave off this look that pissed everyone off. That night, we stayed at Bill's place. He was the main coordinator of the trip and took care of everything. After a night's rest, we continued down to Lake Powell.
After paying to get into the camping grounds, all the cars had to go through a dirt road where it was recommended to have 4 wheel drive, which none of us had. Because the van was so heavy, we scrapped the bottom of the vehicle often until everyone save Ian and Eddie (the driver and his "co-pilot"). Once we found a spot close to the lake, we pitched up all six tents. Five of them were on a giant rock slab that went over the water while on stayed on the ground.
We stayed in the "primative camping" area of the lake and they weren't kidding about primative. The girls and I had "pee parties" where we go behind one of the bigger rocks and take care of business. XD The lake was around 50 degrees, despite the weather outside being around 70-80. We didn't have a shower or anything, so we had to reserve a huge tub of clean lake water for washing hair. On Tuesday, we got ready for a storm to go over us. There wasn't any rain, but it was very windy. The next morning, we left the camping grounds before the storm would get worse and start snowing. Thursday, we stayed at Bill's place again and even went outside for a while to play in the snow.
Finally, we left Utah at around 2 pm and kept driving back to Oregon. Unfornatel, because we got delayed, Tannia and Shaun, who had tickets to go back to Hawaii on Thursday, had to reschedule. Shaun would be going back on Sunday, but Tannia's staying back since it's not worth it going home and back in a few days.
