My own Chase Young Rant
After reading Jadebell's rant and some forums on Gaia, I think it's time for my own little rant on Chase Young.
I'll admit it--Chase Young *was* the reason why I didn't get into Xiaolin Showdown until the second season. But I think all of that is changing. As I watch the reruns, I began to get a better grasp about what the series is about. But like all other fandoms I've joined, there are some flaws in it...but this one gets me the most.
Chase Young.
He has a incredible potential as the "greatest evil genius of all time" as Jack Spicer claims to be. But there are so many holes in his character, it gets aggravating for a fan. You would think the producers would have spent more time on his introduction--a little foreshadowing before "Master Monk Guan" would have been nice, you know.
Actually, when I think about it, there's almost *nothing* on this guy's character. Okay, so he sells his soul...well, so did Faust and Dorian Gray. He's almost a sociopath considering he doesn't show empathy to others. We don't even know how long he's been around. Hell, I want to know how often he has to drink that Lau Mang Lone soup. We've only seen him drinking it once and his place had a friggin' shelf full of that stuff.
We assume from "Master Monk Guan" and "The Evil Within" episodes, that he's been around for more than a thousand years. If you ask me, it's highly possible he could been around since 1500 years ago and possibly he was a former Xiaolin Dragon before he sold his soul. After all, he knows about the Shen Gong Wu and their powers as well. But like he said, "True strength comes from within," so maybe that's why he doesn't rely on the Shen Gong Wu.
This is actually a 2 part series. This part deals with mainly Chase Young in the show. The next post is about concerns about my Xiaolin Showdown Fanfiction project, "No Boundaries."
